Charity Intelligence Recognition

Blog Article

We are proud to announce that Fresh Start Recovery Centre has again been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 10 Impact Charities by Charity Intelligence, as well as one of the Top 5 Impact Charities in Calgary and the Top 5 Impact Canadian Homeless Charities of 2024. This significant achievement highlights the measurable, positive difference our work brings to individuals, families, and communities. We extend our gratitude to all who have supported Fresh Start in our mission to recover lives by Housing, Treating, and Supporting people affected by addiction.

Why This Matters: Each year, more donors seek high-impact charities that deliver proven, measurable changes. With over $19 billion donated to Canadian charities last year, knowing where each dollar can make the biggest difference is powerful. Charity Intelligence’s analysis uses the Social Return on Investment (dSROI) framework to measure the tangible change created by each dollar. This year’s Top 10 Impact Charities demonstrate the highest value per dollar donated, delivering approximately $7 in impact for every dollar invested, compared to the national average of $1.50.

In the words of Greg Thomson, Ci’s Director of Research, “Some charities create a lot of change with the donations they receive; others have almost nothing to show for the money coming from donors. Among the 300 Canadian charities we’ve analyzed, these Top 10 have the highest measurable demonstrated impact.”

What This Means for You as a Donor: Charity Intelligence’s reports are designed to help Canadian donors give with confidence, ensuring that donations drive real change. At Fresh Start, your support fuels essential addiction recovery services, turning every dollar into meaningful change for clients and society alike.

This year’s Top Impact Charities include frontline organizations like Fresh Start Recovery, addressing addiction, youth education, and health in Canada, alongside international programs bringing critical resources like clean water and medical aid to developing regions. Ci’s Top 10 list is based on five objective metrics: donor reporting, financial transparency, funding need, efficiency, and demonstrated impact.

Often referred to as a “charity watchdog,” Charity Intelligence helps Canadians give better by highlighting charities that deliver high-impact results. Each year, Ci rigorously analyzes charities, encouraging donors to support those with the most significant measurable return on investment.
